Two men killed in separate early morning crashes in Meath and Limerick

Two men were killed in separate single-vehicle collisions in the early hours of Sunday, September 20, 2026, in Counties Meath and Limerick, according to Gardaí. A third man remains in critical condition following the Limerick crash. The first fatal collision occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on Connaught Street in Athboy, Co Meath. A man in his 50s was driving a car that struck a premises. He was the sole occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to the mortuary at Our Lady's Hospital in Navan, where a postmortem examination will be conducted. The road was closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The second collision happened about 40 minutes later on the N21 at Cummeen, Adare, Co Limerick. At around 2:40 a.m., a car driven by a man in his 20s struck a tree. The driver was fatally injured. His body was taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick for a postmortem. Two male passengers were also in the car. A man in his 20s was taken to University Hospital Limerick, where he remains in critical condition. An adult male teenager was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
