Two men arrested after mid-flight violence on Qatar Airways

Two male passengers were restrained mid-flight and arrested upon landing after becoming violent and making threats aboard a Qatar Airways flight from Melbourne to Doha on Friday. The incident occurred on flight VA7, which departed Melbourne and was bound for Doha, Qatar. Witnesses reported the men appeared agitated shortly after boarding, repeatedly getting out of their seats, moving through the cabin, and rummaging through their luggage. The situation escalated approximately six hours before the scheduled landing, when the two men began arguing and then fighting with each other and other people on board. According to passenger accounts, the men made threats, including claims that they had a gun and statements about wanting to hurt and shoot people. They also allegedly physically assaulted cabin crew, with reports of spitting, kicking, and headbutting flight attendants. Multiple crew members and several male passengers worked together to restrain the two men. One witness described the effort as requiring six or seven people to hold each man down until the aircraft could land. A passenger identified as James was specifically noted for helping to restrain one of the men.
