Two killed in SUV-Metro bus collision in Los Angeles

Two people were killed and at least six others injured when an SUV collided with a Metro bus in the Chatsworth neighborhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday evening. The violent crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. in the 20900 block of Nordhoff Street, near De Soto Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The Los Angeles Police Department and fire officials reported that a Ford SUV struck the left side of a Metro Line 166 bus. The bus was traveling eastbound on Nordhoff Street when it was hit by the SUV, which was traveling southbound on De Soto Avenue. Aerial footage from the scene showed the SUV lodged against the side of the bus near a crosswalk, with both vehicles ending up on the curbside. It appeared the bus was crossing the intersection when the SUV T-boned it, and investigators are exploring the possibility that one of the vehicles may have run a red light. Emergency crews responded to the scene and found numerous injured people. Firefighters worked to extricate victims trapped inside the mangled vehicles. The Los Angeles Fire Department initially reported eight patients, with injuries ranging from minor to critical. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene.
