Two arraigned over alleged meth lab in Enugu

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says two men have been arrested and arraigned on five charges tied to an alleged methamphetamine laboratory in Obeagu, Enugu State. The defendants pleaded not guilty, and the Federal High Court in Enugu scheduled their trial for October 21, 2026, according to the agency’s account. The NDLEA identified the men as Chukwu Obumneme Christopher, also known as Brown, and Chukwu Georginus Monday, also known as George. The charges concern alleged conspiracy, organising, managing and financing a drug trafficking organisation, and unlawful possession of chemicals used in methamphetamine production. The allegations have not been proven in court. The agency says the laboratory was in Eziama community, within Obeagu, in Awgu Local Government Area. It said its Special Operations Unit conducted surveillance from December 1 to 4, 2025, tracking movements across Lagos, Enugu and Anambra states before operatives located the compound. The NDLEA described the facility as capable of producing methamphetamine in commercial quantities and said it contained improvised reactors and distillation equipment.
