Twins Buxton to undergo season-ending hip surgery

Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton will undergo season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his right hip, the team announced on September 11, 2026. The procedure is scheduled for September 18 and will be performed by Dr. Christopher Larson, a hip and knee specialist with Twin Cities Orthopedics. Buxton, a three-time All-Star, was placed on the injured list for the third time this season on August 30 due to a right hip impingement. He last played on August 25. The decision to proceed with surgery came after Buxton was evaluated by Dr. Larson on September 10. "If that's the only way that it's going to get it fixed and get me back to normal, I will take the positives from the negatives," Buxton told reporters. "So, that's a positive for me to go forward with." Buxton expressed optimism about his long-term outlook, stating that doctors reassured him he would be fine for the rest of his career. "Obviously it's surgery, so it's something that, at some point in time, it'll probably come back," he said. "But they definitely reassured me that I'll be fine the rest of my career going forward.
