TSA Program Lets Non-Flyers Access Airport Gates

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched a new program called Gateside by TSA PreCheck, allowing select individuals without plane tickets to pass through airport security. The initiative, which began on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, aims to provide eligible TSA PreCheck members with access to secure airport areas for purposes such as greeting or seeing off family and friends at the gate, connecting with travelers during layovers, or patronizing airport shops and restaurants. This program represents a significant shift, loosening restrictions that have been in place since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, which largely limited terminal access to ticketed passengers. Currently, Gateside is available at 13 U.S. airports, including Los Angeles International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, and San Diego International Airport, among others. To be eligible, visitors must possess TSA PreCheck benefits and a Known Traveler Number (KTN). Children under a specified age can also participate but must be included on their parent or guardian's application.
