Trump Urges Hispanic Voters to Back Republicans at White House Event
President Donald Trump used a White House Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on September 30 to praise Hispanic Americans, promote his administration’s economic record and immigration enforcement policies, and urge support for Republicans in the November midterm elections. The East Room event combined a cultural tribute with a direct political appeal, as Trump sought to make his case to Hispanic voters ahead of the election. Trump described Hispanic Americans as hardworking and patriotic and said his policies were putting more money in working families’ pockets. He cited tax changes involving tips, overtime and Social Security, and acknowledged difficulty explaining his economic record. He also defended the administration’s border enforcement and deportation policies, calling immigration enforcement one of the hardest jobs he had faced because of criticism that it was either too strict or not strict enough. Trump urged attendees to help Republicans retain support in Congress, arguing that Democrats would reverse his administration’s border policies if Republicans lost. He said he would return to the campaign trail.
