Trump Shares Image Suggesting Briefing Room Could Become Pool

President Donald Trump shared a before-and-after image on Truth Social suggesting the White House briefing room could be converted back into an indoor swimming pool, a post that mocked the press corps but did not announce an approved renovation or construction schedule. The image placed the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room beside a rendering of an ornate pool. It labeled the current room “Fake News, Before” and the pool “FDR Pool, After.” The post appeared Sunday, September 27, amid a dispute over White House access for CNN, MS NOW and Politico. The historic pool shown in the image remains beneath the briefing room. President Franklin D. Roosevelt had it built in 1933 in the West Terrace, where he used swimming for exercise. In 1970, President Richard Nixon’s administration covered the pool with flooring and created a press room to accommodate the growing White House press corps. The pool structure was preserved beneath the floor. The image’s suggestion of restoring the pool reverses that earlier conversion, but the post itself offers no confirmation that the administration intends to carry it out.
