Trump says US documents will use super intelligence term

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, that United States government documents would henceforth use the term "super intelligence" instead of "artificial intelligence," arguing that the word artificial makes the technology sound fake. Speaking in his opening remarks at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, Trump said the change would apply to all US documents and, he hoped, eventually to documents worldwide. "From this point forward, all of United States documents, and hopefully the worlds will be changed to use the much more accurate term super as opposed to artificial. So its super intelligence," Trump said. He introduced the abbreviation SI and cast the technology as a strategic contest the United States cannot afford to lose. "Whoever wins AI, you have to remember this, and now I say, whoever wins SI, whoever wins superintelligence, wins," he said, claiming the United States leads China "by a lot" and pledging to maintain that position. Trump also said he would not restrain the technology's expansion.
