Trump rejects new AI guardrails, says only he is needed

President Donald Trump rejected calls for new government oversight of artificial intelligence on Monday, asserting in a Truth Social post that his leadership alone is the only necessary guardrail for the technology. The statement came amid a weekend of public warnings from leading AI developers about the potential dangers of rapid advancement. In his post, Trump wrote that the only control or guardrails AI needs is a "STRONG AND SMART High IQ! PRESIDENT," adding that the United States has that "in spades." He claimed the Trump Administration has already stopped AI developers from doing "bad, or potentially bad, things," and specifically criticized Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, whom he called "Dario Anthropic!" and "a perfect little angel." The president asserted that his administration possesses "tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power" over AI companies. He framed opposition to the technology's expansion as a "SICK conspiracy" that benefits China, stating, "WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so." Trump's comments followed a weekend essay from Amodei, who called for slowing the pace of AI model capability improvement.
