Trump denies seeking Iran talks

President Donald Trump stated Wednesday that the United States is not attempting to force Iran back to the negotiating table, asserting that Washington holds a superior position with near-total control of the Strait of Hormuz and observing Iran's economy in collapse. His remarks followed a new wave of U.S. strikes against Iranian military targets. The U.S. military announced strikes Tuesday afternoon against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) sites, including air defense systems, radar, maritime assets, and communications facilities. U.S. Central Command stated the operation was in retaliation for Iran's attempted placement of sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz and its missile attacks on U.S. forces in Jordan. Iran subsequently claimed to have launched missiles and drones targeting U.S. bases in Jordan and Bahrain. In a post on Truth Social, President Trump dismissed reports suggesting an effort to bring Iran to negotiations, stating, "I couldn't care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement." He added, "I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing.
