Trump Contacts Apple to Rename Lake Ontario as Lake America

President Donald Trump has personally contacted Apple to request it change the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America on its mapping service, according to U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum. The move is the latest step in an escalating trade dispute with Canada and follows Trump's executive order last week formally renaming the Great Lake in federal databases. Burgum revealed the direct outreach during an interview on Fox Business on Monday, August 31, 2026. "The president reached out to Apple directly, so I'm sure that we may be seeing that change coming up soon to Lake America," Burgum said. As of Monday morning, Apple Maps had not yet implemented the change for U.S.
