Trump Calls Iran Failed Nation After Renewed U.S. Strikes

Published 1 September 2026

President Donald Trump declared Iran a "failed nation" and stated it "is dead" on August 31, 2026, following a renewed exchange of fire between U.S. and Iranian forces that ended a month-long lull in direct hostilities. The U.S. president made the assertion in a social media post and vowed to "hit them hard" in response to Iran's retaliatory missile strikes. The latest escalation began on August 30, when U.S. Central Command reported that American forces conducted precision strikes on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. The command stated the operation targeted two Iranian rocket launchers that were preparing to deploy naval mines, posing an imminent threat to the strategic waterway.
