Trump Bans CNN, Politico, MS NOW From White House

Published 19 September 2026

President Donald Trump has banned reporters from CNN, Politico, and MS NOW from the White House, implementing a threat he made a day earlier. The ban took effect on Saturday morning when Secret Service denied entry to a Politico reporter and confiscated her pass, while White House staffers deactivated and confiscated the press badges of reporters from CNN and MS NOW. Trump announced the ban on Friday in a post on Truth Social, stating it was effective immediately. He cited the outlets' "constant reporting FAKE NEWS!" and accused Politico of receiving an "illegal and ridiculous 8 Million Dollar subscription" from the U.S. government under the Biden administration. Politico has denied the claim, stating the allegations are "false and have been thoroughly debunked." The targeted news organizations condemned the action. CNN called it an "illegal assault" on a constitutionally protected right, while Politico said it would "vigorously defend" its First Amendment rights. Press freedom groups, including the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, stated the ban would be unconstitutional and rejected by courts.
