Trump approval hits record low of 32 percent in poll

President Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen to 32 percent, the lowest figure of his political career, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll completed on Sunday, as Republican support erodes over cost-of-living concerns amid the war with Iran. The four-day online survey of 1,277 U.S. adults nationwide, with a margin of error of about 3 percentage points, found overall approval down from 35 percent a week earlier and below Trump's previous career low of 33 percent recorded in December 2017. The reading also sits beneath the lowest figure recorded for his predecessor, Joe Biden, whose weakest mark was 35 percent in late October 2024. Support among Republicans dropped to 73 percent from 82 percent over the same week. For the first time in Trump's second term, Republicans who disapprove of his handling of the cost of living outnumber those who approve, by 51 percent to 44 percent. Just 17 percent of all respondents approved of his handling of the cost of living, the issue voters most often name as decisive for how they will vote on 3 November. Trump returned to the White House in January 2025 on pledges to tame inflation and end foreign wars.
