Trabzonspor and Fatih Tekke mutually part ways

Published 2 September 2026

Trabzonspor confirmed the departure of head coach Fatih Tekke on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, following a mutual agreement to part ways just five games into the new season. The decision comes less than a week after the Turkish club initially blocked Tekke's resignation in the wake of a heavy Europa League playoff elimination. Tekke, who had been in charge for approximately 18 months, first offered to resign after Trabzonspor suffered a 5-0 aggregate defeat to Hungarian side Ferencvaros in the Europa League playoff round. The club rejected his initial resignation, stating it appeared to have been made under the intense emotional impact of the European exit. However, a subsequent 2-1 league defeat to promoted side Amedspor on September 1, prompted further discussions between Tekke and club officials, leading to the final agreement. In its official statement, Trabzonspor announced that Vice President Serkan Kilic met with Tekke to evaluate the team's situation and future direction. "Following the discussions held, we have mutually agreed to part ways with Fatih Tekke in line with Trabzonspor's interests and future-oriented goals," the statement read.
