The result left manager Roberto De Zerbi visibly frustrated, and he was seen on the pitch after the final whistle publicly criticizing substitute forward Mathys Tel. De Zerbi explained the incident in his post-match press conference, stating he was coaching Tel on his positioning. "I was coaching him on the pitch. The body shape, he is a striker, the striker will play with his shoulder on the goal side," De Zerbi said. He added that Tel, who replaced Dominic Solanke in the 63rd minute, must learn to play as a striker looking at the goal rather than with his back to it. Despite the criticism, De Zerbi insisted there was no personal issue, saying, "I love Mathys as a player, as a guy. There is not a problem." The draw extended Tottenham's barren run to over 400 minutes without a goal. The club has taken only two points from its first four matches, sitting in 17th place in the table.
