Tom Cruise Confirms Rumors of Intense On-Set Behavior

Published 16 September 2026

Tom Cruise has confirmed that long-standing rumors about his intense on-set behavior are accurate, describing it as a lifelong trait rooted in his dedication to filmmaking. In a new interview with GQ, the 64-year-old actor addressed his reputation directly, stating, "I work hard, and people that work with me, they know. I expect a lot and I'm upfront about it. It's like, The rumors are true. And do you want this?" Cruise explained that the intensity is not a persona but a core part of his identity, stemming from a deep curiosity and desire to master his craft. "Even when I was a kid, they were like, 'Oh, come on, Tom. You're so intense.' I'm like, I don't know what to say. I am intense," he said. He emphasized that this drive extends beyond filming, with constant preparation for future projects. "I'm always studying something. I'm always learning something, always. Movies don't just start when you're shooting it and on a movie set. There's sometimes years of preparation." The interview, his first with GQ in two decades, was conducted to promote his upcoming film "Digger," a black comedy directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
