TMC MP Moitra alleges BJP workers pelted her with eggs in Bengal

Published 17 September 2026

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra alleged that workers from the Bharatiya Janata Party pelted her with eggs during a visit to her constituency in West Bengal's Nadia district on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. The incident occurred in the Natna area, where Moitra had gone to attend a party meeting after informing the local police. In a video message posted on social media, Moitra, the two-term MP from Krishnanagar, stated that BJP workers gathered outside the meeting venue with eggs and black flags. She claimed that as she was leaving, they threw eggs at her while raising "go back" slogans and chanting "Jai Shri Ram." Broken eggshells were visible on her face in the footage. Moitra said she was accompanied by four police officers at the time. She accused the police of failing to intervene, stating they told her to get into her car instead of dispersing the protesters. "In full view of the police, they came and threw eggs on me," she said in her video statement. The MP referenced a recent Supreme Court observation made by Justice Dipankar Datta.
