President Bola Tinubu has pledged government incentives to stimulate the growth and capacity of Nigeria LNG Limited, while urging the company to prioritize domestic gas utilization and reduce flaring to deliver greater economic benefits to Nigerians. The commitment was made during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria's natural resources must directly contribute to economic growth and improved welfare for citizens. He stated his administration's willingness to support initiatives that convert environmental liabilities, such as gas flaring, into strategic economic opportunities. "My major concern is the domestic utilisation. You must be able to take out the flaring and convert potential environmental liability to what could be strategically and economically beneficial to the consumers," the President said. He called for pricing mechanisms and greater domestication of LNG-related activities so that ordinary Nigerians can feel the benefits of the country's gas wealth.
