Tinubu orders funds release, warns commissions against corruption
President Bola Tinubu has directed the timely release of funds to Nigeria's Regional Development Commissions and warned their leadership against corruption and wasteful projects. The directive was issued during the opening of the first North Central Stakeholders Development Summit in Abuja on Monday, September 14, 2026. Tinubu, represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, stated that the Federal Government would continue to provide political and financial backing to the commissions. He formally instructed the SGF to ensure all funds accruable to the commissions are released as and when due. The President issued a strong warning against mismanagement, declaring that the era of white elephant projects is over. He stated there is no excuse for the commissions to become another conduit for wasting public funds. Tinubu charged the boards and managements to operate strictly within extant laws and regulations, warning that corruption, marginalisation, politicisation, and ethnic considerations in government operations will not be tolerated.
