Published 1 September 2026

Timipre Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa State and ex-minister of state for petroleum resources, has resigned from Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress, accusing the party of abandoning its founding ideals and predicting its defeat in the 2027 general elections. In a letter dated August 31, 2026, and addressed to the APC chairman in his local government area, Sylva stated the decision followed consultations with family, associates, and supporters.
