Three Outlets Sue White House Over Credential Revocation

President Donald Trump barred CNN, MSNBC, and Politico from the White House in an announcement made on Truth Social on September 18, 2026, and the Secret Service began revoking the outlets' credentials on September 19, 2026. The three outlets filed a lawsuit on September 21, 2026, arguing the revocation violated the First Amendment. The suit names Trump, chief of staff Susie Wiles, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung, and Secret Service Director Sean Curran as defendants, and is represented by attorney Theodore Boutrous Jr. of Gibson Dunn. The outlets said credentials were revoked without notice or process because the White House objected to their reporting. In response, the five TV pool networks, including Fox News Media, ABC News, CBS News, CNN, and NBC News, suspended pool coverage rather than substitute for CNN. Fox News Washington Bureau Chief Bryan Boughton, the pool chair, told members by email that no replacement pool would be put in place. Major photo agencies, including Getty and Reuters, along with newsrooms such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Associated Press, withheld images from presidential events.
