Three killed in Swiss Alps plane crash near Leukerbad

Three people, including two British nationals, were killed when a light aircraft crashed into a mountain slope near the Swiss Alpine resort of Leukerbad on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. The single-engine Cirrus SR22T struck a mountainside in the Fluhalp area shortly after 4 p.m. local time, according to Swiss authorities. Emergency services responded with three helicopters and two rescue specialists, finding all three occupants deceased at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing a significant amount of smoke following the crash. The victims have not been formally identified, but the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed two were British nationals and stated it was providing support to their families. One victim has been named by his company as Owain Davies, 55, the managing director of Welsh engineering firm Amcanu. The company stated Davies was traveling as a passenger alongside two close friends. Davies was an experienced pilot and a trustee of the Wales Air Ambulance charity, but was not at the controls of the aircraft during this flight.
