Three Killed as Speeding BMW Plunges From Mumbai Bridge

Published 20 September 2026

Three people were killed and a fourth was critically injured early Sunday after a speeding BMW crashed through a barrier and plunged from a bridge on Mumbai's newly opened Coastal Road. The accident occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. local time near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala Lajpatrai College, as the vehicle was traveling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali. According to the Coastal Road Control Room and Mumbai Police, the driver lost control due to excessive speed, crashing into a divider and boundary wall before the car fell nearly 75 feet from the elevated stretch onto a construction site below. CCTV footage captured the moment the black BMW flew off the bridge, flipping midair before impact. All four occupants were rushed to the civic-run Nair Hospital, where three were declared dead on arrival. The deceased have been identified as Shanay Gajjal, 21; Dhairya Seth, 17; and Aditya Jakasniya, 19. The sole survivor, Aditya Oswal, aged about 20, is in critical condition in the hospital's trauma ward. Preliminary investigations point to excessive speed as the primary cause, with one source indicating the car's speed may have exceeded 200 kmph.
