Three killed as news helicopter crashes in Los Angeles

Published 18 September 2026

A news helicopter crashed in a Chatsworth, Los Angeles parking lot on Tuesday evening, killing three people while covering a separate deadly bus crash. The victims were identified as NBC4 reporter Eliana Moreno, 38, pilot George Marciniw, and bystander Edy Gutierrez Mejia, 29. The crash occurred around 7 p.m. as the helicopter, a Eurocopter AS350 B2 operated by Angel City Air, was providing aerial coverage of a collision between an SUV and a Metro bus. That earlier incident had left two people dead and six injured. The helicopter went down near a self-storage facility, bursting into flames and igniting at least four vehicles and two storage containers. Video footage from the helicopter's live broadcast and from nearby cameras captured the aircraft's final moments. The recordings show the helicopter hovering before an alarm sounds, followed by a rapid descent. In the cockpit audio, reporter Moreno can be heard saying "uh oh" and asking "You can't pull up?" before the video cuts out. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation.
