The Sandbox to Reimburse SAND Holders After Bridge Exploit

The Sandbox, a major decentralized gaming platform, has announced it will fully reimburse users who lost SAND tokens in a security breach on August 21, 2026. The company confirmed it will provide Ethereum-based SAND on a one-to-one basis to all eligible holders who had legitimate claims on the Base and BNB Chain networks at the time of the incident. The exploit targeted the platform's cross-chain bridge infrastructure, resulting in the theft of approximately 14.7 million SAND tokens, valued at roughly $700,000 at the time. According to a postmortem report published by The Sandbox on August 27, the attacker exploited a configuration flaw in the bridge contracts on Base and BNB Smart Chain.
