Texas Mother Sues Students for Life Activists Under HB 7
Maria Puerto filed a lawsuit in Harris County against four Students for Life of America activists, alleging they ordered abortion medication in an undercover operation and violated a Texas law the group supported. The October 13 complaint seeks $459,782 under House Bill 7, though no court has ruled on whether the alleged conduct violated the law. The complaint says Kristan Hawkins, Lydia Taylor Davis, Jamie Curry and Megan Roos ordered abortion pills outside Space Center Houston on March 23, 2026. It cites a now-expired social media post saying the group was ordering pills undercover. The filing does not establish whether the medication was delivered, transported within Texas or consumed, or what each defendant did individually. Puerto, a mother of two who uses a pseudonym, seeks an amount the complaint describes as the average cost of raising two children in Texas from birth to age 18. If she wins, she would keep $10,000 and intends to direct the remainder to Jane’s Due Process, a nonprofit that helps young people access abortion care and contraception, according to reports of her plans.
