Tenzing film sets October release after trailer debut

The film "Tenzing," a historical drama about the first successful summit of Mount Everest, has released its first trailer and set a release date. The movie, directed by Australian filmmaker Jennifer Peedom, will open in select theaters on October 9, 2026, and begin streaming on Apple TV a week later on October 16, 2026. The film stars Tom Hiddleston as New Zealand mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary, Genden Phuntsok as the Sherpa climber Tenzing Norgay, and Willem Dafoe as expedition leader John Hunt. Caitríona Balfe and Thinley Lhamo also appear in the cast. The story is based on the 1953 British expedition that became the first to reach the summit of the world's tallest mountain. The trailer depicts the expedition's pressure and ambition, with Hunt stating, "We've been trying to climb this mountain for 30 years. Britain is depending on us to get up first." The film's narrative focuses on Tenzing Norgay's perspective, portraying him as a gifted Sherpa who must convince Hunt to let him join the climbing team rather than merely serving it.
