Teen killed, another injured in NYC truck-Citi Bike crash

A 15-year-old girl was killed and a 13-year-old girl was injured when a commercial truck struck a Citi Bike they were sharing in Manhattan's East Village on Friday night. The crash occurred around 9 p.m. at the intersection of East 14th Street and First Avenue. The NYPD identified the deceased victim as Daria Serkov of Manhattan. The 13-year-old girl was taken to Bellevue Hospital with injuries to her leg and pelvis and was listed in stable condition. A police spokesperson said a 16-year-old girl was operating the bicycle, with the younger girl as a passenger, though other reports identified the victims as 15 and 13. The truck was a Peterbilt commercial vehicle operated by Badger Daylighting, a hydrovac excavation company. A company spokesperson confirmed one of its vehicles was involved and said it was fully cooperating with the police investigation. The driver, a 57-year-old man, remained at the scene and was being questioned by officers. No arrests have been announced. The NYPD's Highway District Collision Investigation Squad conducted an on-scene forensic reconstruction.
