Teen e-bike rider killed in Clare hit-and-run
A teenager has died following a hit-and-run collision in County Clare late Friday night. Emergency services discovered the boy, who was riding an e-bike, unresponsive by the roadside shortly after 11 p.m. on September 4, 2026. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occurred on the L3050 at Cottage Cross, near Cloonlara, on the border between County Clare and County Limerick. A second vehicle involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene, prompting an appeal for information from An Garda Síochána. Gardaí and emergency services were alerted by a member of the public who found the e-bike rider, a male in his mid-teens, unresponsive. Paramedics attended the scene but were unable to save the teenager. Investigations into the fatal road traffic collision are ongoing. The scene has been preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local traffic diversions were put in place, and motorists were advised to avoid the area. The coroner has been notified, and a postmortem examination will be arranged.
