Taylor Swift donates $50,000 to GoFundMe for injured Connecticut mother

Taylor Swift has donated $50,000 to a GoFundMe campaign supporting Ashley Taunton, a Connecticut mother of three who sustained life-threatening injuries while helping strangers after a car accident in Rhode Island last month. The donation, confirmed by multiple reports, is the largest single contribution to the fundraiser, which has raised over $64,000 as of August 28. Taunton, a 42-year-old certified nursing assistant, was driving south on Interstate 95 in July with her youngest daughter when she encountered a group of teenagers whose vehicle had hydroplaned in a rainstorm. She stopped to assist them and was moving the teens to safety when another car lost control on the wet road and struck her. Taunton had pushed one of the teenagers out of the way just before the impact. The collision left Taunton with multiple severe injuries, including bilateral internal carotid artery dissection, liver and spleen lacerations, multiple rib fractures, and a ruptured diaphragm. She was admitted to Rhode Island Hospital, where she has undergone two major surgeries with more scheduled. Doctors have estimated her recovery could take up to a year.
