Tate Brothers Indicted in Romania on Trafficking Charges

Romanian prosecutors have indicted controversial social media influencers Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate on charges including human trafficking, sex with a minor, and money laundering. The indictment, announced Friday, September 4, 2026, by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), adds a new layer to the legal troubles facing the dual U.S.-British citizens. Prosecutors allege that Andrew Tate, 39, recruited young women, including a 15-year-old girl from Luton, England, in 2012 by falsely promising romantic relationships. According to the indictment, these women were then coerced into producing explicit content for an online webcam business through threats, emotional blackmail, surveillance, and physical violence. The brothers are accused of profiting significantly from this activity, with one estimate suggesting over 1.2 million euros were obtained from the webcam work of one victim. Andrew Tate faces charges of trafficking minors, sex with a minor, money laundering, and witness tampering. His younger brother, Tristan Tate, 38, is charged with complicity in these actions.
