Tamworth Tap wins overall Great British Pub Awards title

The Tamworth Tap in Staffordshire was named the overall winner at the 2026 Great British Pub Awards, held in Leeds on September 23, after competing against more than 90 pubs. The award recognizes the Tamworth venue as the competition’s overall winner; it is distinct from CAMRA’s National Pub of the Year award, which the pub has also won in other years. The Great British Pub Awards cover 17 categories, including awards for food, beer, community, gardens and family-friendly venues. Finalists were assessed through written entries, review scores and their online presence, followed by visits and interviews with licensees, according to accounts of the judging process. The Tamworth Tap occupies a 16th-century building in the town centre that formerly housed a tourist information centre. George and Louise Greenaway opened it as a pub in 2017 after the information centre moved. The venue includes an onsite brewery and serves a range of beers and other drinks. The award judges cited its beer quality and its work on local causes and industry campaigns, according to comments reported after the ceremony. The pub has received other national recognition.
