Tamil Thriller 'Maharaja' to Get Hollywood Remake

The Tamil thriller "Maharaja" is set to be remade in Hollywood, marking a significant milestone for Indian cinema after its box office success in China. Producer Sudhan Sundaram confirmed that a Hollywood agency approached the production team for remake rights following the film's strong performance in China, where it earned approximately Rs 91.65 crore at the box office, according to Sacnilk. Sundaram stated that the project is in early development, with production expected to begin next year. He noted that the agency is in talks with an A-list actor for the lead role, with Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey reportedly among those being considered. However, Sundaram clarified that McConaughey's involvement is not officially confirmed, saying, "Maybe McConaughey is one of the stars they are talking to, but only the agency will be able to confirm." Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, "Maharaja" was released in 2024 and starred Vijay Sethupathi as a barber who reports a missing dustbin to the police, leading to a complex narrative of revenge and identity.
