Tamil Nadu CM Vijay begins first overseas visit to UK

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is undertaking his first overseas visit since assuming office, departing Chennai on the night of September 10, 2026, for roughly a week in the United Kingdom, according to a State government statement and officials familiar with the schedule. He is expected to arrive in London on September 11 and remain there until about September 17. The stated purpose of the trip is to attract investment to Tamil Nadu and to study motorsport infrastructure that could support the State's recently announced plan to build a world-class Motor Sports City. The government statement said the Chief Minister will visit the Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit to gain insights into its design, safety systems and commercial operation, and to explore opportunities in motorsport infrastructure, sports tourism and specialised automobile industries. The visit is intended to build on Tamil Nadu's automobile and electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem, following the Chief Minister's announcement in the Assembly that a motorsport city with modern facilities would be established in the State.
