Tamil Film Dorothy Gets Standing Ovation at TIFF Premiere

Karthik Subbaraj's Tamil film "Dorothy" received a standing ovation at its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Saturday, marking the first time a Tamil feature has premiered at the festival in over a decade. The screening took place at the Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto as part of the festival's Centrepiece section, which showcases acclaimed international features and anticipated world premieres. The film stars Keerthy Suresh in the titular role, alongside actors Sananth and Rishikanth. Following the screening, the audience rose for a standing ovation, and the cast and crew took the stage to address the crowd. Director Karthik Subbaraj, who also wrote the film, described it as a deeply personal project. "Dorothy is a story that comes from a place and culture I know intimately, but its questions around friendship, prejudice and human connection are universal," Subbaraj said in a statement. "To have its world premiere at TIFF is incredibly special. It gives the film an opportunity to reach audiences across the world while staying true to the story I wanted to tell.
