Symbiosis Recovers 15 BTC After Bitcoin Bridge Exploit

Published 14 September 2026

Crosschain liquidity protocol Symbiosis has recovered approximately 15 Bitcoin, valued at around $1.1 million, following an exploit of its native Bitcoin bridge on September 11, 2026. The recovered assets are now secured in a team-controlled multisig wallet, according to the protocol's official statements. The exploit occurred at approximately 04:28 UTC on September 11, when an attacker leveraged a vulnerability in the bridge's smart contract. Blockchain security firm Blockaid reported that the attacker minted roughly 46.1 billion unbacked syBTC tokens, a synthetic representation of Bitcoin, on the BNB Chain. However, the attacker was only able to convert a fraction of these tokens into usable funds, selling about 4.39 Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) on Ethereum's Uniswap v4 for net proceeds of approximately $336,000. Symbiosis has stated that the $336,000 figure should not be treated as the final loss, as its accounting of the incident remains in progress. The protocol has not yet disclosed the total exposure or final loss incurred by liquidity providers who supplied assets to the bridge.
