Sydney Marathon to Feature Reigning World Champions Simbu and Jepchirchir

The Sydney Marathon, in its second year as an Abbott World Marathon Major, will feature both reigning world champions when it takes place on Sunday, August 30, 2026. The elite fields are headlined by men's world champion Alphonce Simbu of Tanzania and women's world champion Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya, setting the stage for a competitive day of racing on a notoriously challenging course. The event has grown significantly since joining the World Marathon Majors series in 2025, with organizers confirming a record 41,000 runners from 140 countries will participate. The race begins in North Sydney, crosses the Harbour Bridge, and finishes at the Sydney Opera House.
