Suspect Arrested in German Power Grid Sabotage

German police have arrested a 48-year-old man suspected of orchestrating a campaign of sabotage against the nation's power infrastructure, concluding a dayslong manhunt. The suspect, identified by media as Daniel V., was detained near the Weisweiler power station after attempting to evade a police checkpoint. He was found to be in possession of explosives and offered no resistance. Investigators allege the suspect employed a novel method, using homemade rockets to carry conductive wire over high-voltage power lines. The wire, once draped across the lines, was intended to cause short circuits, potentially leading to equipment failure. Authorities reported that these actions resulted in some power station units being taken offline, though no widespread blackout occurred. The attacks or attempted attacks targeted high-voltage sites across several German states, including North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg, and Saxony, often near lignite-fired power plants. Evidence found at the scene included additional launch devices and a tent rigged with explosives near the arrest location. A search of the suspect's home also reportedly yielded explosives.
