Supreme Court sets CAPF contempt pleas for October 15
The Supreme Court has scheduled contempt petitions over alleged noncompliance with its directions on Indian Police Service (IPS) deputations to Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) for a joint hearing with a challenge to the Central Armed Police Forces General Administration Act, 2026, on October 15. The court also criticised the way the petitions were moved from a regular bench to a special bench, after petitioners said they had not been informed of the request to transfer them. The petitions had been listed before a bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Atul S. Chandurkar on September 29, but were removed from its cause list shortly before the scheduled hearing. They came before a special bench of Justices Manoj Misra and Bhuyan the following day. The Registry told the special bench that a government lawyer had asked the Chief Justice of India to list the petitions before the bench hearing the separate challenge to the 2026 Act. Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati acknowledged making the request and apologised for not informing the petitioners.
