Stokes ranks Brook above Pietersen in talent after T20I century

Published 16 September 2026

England cricketer Ben Stokes has publicly ranked Harry Brook's talent above that of former England star Kevin Pietersen, following Brook's match-winning century in the first T20 International against Sri Lanka. The comparison, made on social media, has sparked discussion given Pietersen's recent role as a mentor within the England whiteball setup. Brook, England's whiteball captain, scored an unbeaten 114 from 49 balls in the match at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on September 15, 2026. His innings, which included 10 fours and six sixes, was the cornerstone of England's total of 254 for four. England then bowled Sri Lanka out for 135 to secure a 119-run victory and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Stokes, a former England Test captain, responded to the performance on X, formerly Twitter. "I dont even think the genius of KP could come close to what Harry Brook has talentwise," he wrote. He added, "You are an absolute freak, Harry. Youre mint to watch." In a follow-up post, Stokes clarified his stance, stating, "Bit harsh on KP actually both are freak talents but Brook better IMO is my point.
