Steam Leak Exposes Unreleased Game Achievements
Achievement lists for numerous unreleased and unannounced video games have become publicly accessible, potentially exposing significant story spoilers and details about upcoming game features. The data appeared on various tracking websites, including Exophase, following what is believed to be a leak from Steam's backend services. The owner of Exophase, identified as "x3sphere," suggested that the exposure occurred due to a potential error on Valve's part. According to this account, achievement data that should have remained private became accessible through Steam's API, leading to its scan and public display on tracking sites. This mechanism reportedly allowed even games without official names to be assigned AppIDs and have their achievements listed. The scale of the leak is substantial, with reports indicating that dozens, and in some accounts up to 85, games are affected. Among the titles whose achievements have reportedly surfaced are major upcoming releases such as Kingdom Hearts 4 and Persona 6, alongside other announced but not yet released games like Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, and Silent Hill Townfall.
