Staffordshire Man Jailed for Life for Murdering Wife

A Staffordshire man has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 20 years for murdering his wife in a sustained attack at their home last year. Robert Alexander, 66, was found guilty of killing Christina Alexander, 60, by stabbing her 77 times, striking her with a dog food can, and strangling her at their property in Dosthill, Tamworth, on June 23, 2025. The sentencing took place at Stafford Crown Court on September 1, 2026. The court heard that Alexander called emergency services after the killing and told police, "I've disposed of my wife." He later claimed at trial that he could not remember the events after being struck in the stomach and "lost the plot." However, a jury unanimously convicted him of murder in June 2026 following a 14-day trial, rejecting his defenses of self-defense and diminished responsibility. Judge Avik Mukherjee, passing sentence, stated the evidence showed Alexander was aware Christina was planning to leave him. "I am sure that you intended to kill Christina due to the extent of the injuries that you inflicted upon her and also the ways in which you attacked her," the judge said.
