St. Lucie County finds 11 unaccounted-for cameras
St. Lucie County officials found 14 operating cameras that were not included in the county’s initial count of 52 as they moved to remove Flock surveillance devices, according to accounts of the county’s sweep. The sheriff’s office said three of the 14 belonged to it, leaving 11 devices unaccounted for in the county’s records. The cameras were found along roads in St. Lucie County, including in the Fort Pierce area. Officials have not publicly identified who installed or operated the unaccounted-for devices. The available accounts also do not establish who could access any images or data collected by them, or whether the cameras were still recording when the removal effort began. County representatives said they posted notices on the unidentified cameras and gave owners deadlines between October 16 and October 20 to remove them, depending on when each notice was posted. If no one claims the devices, county workers plan to cover their lenses. Those steps were described as plans; the accounts do not confirm whether an owner has come forward or whether any cameras have been removed or covered.
