Sri Lanka stripped of 2027 Women's Champions Trophy hosting rights
The International Cricket Council has stripped Sri Lanka of the hosting rights for the inaugural 2027 Women's Champions Trophy, citing ongoing concerns over government interference in the administration of the national cricket board. The decision, confirmed on August 30, 2026, marks the second time in three years the country has lost the right to host a major ICC event. The tournament, a six-team T20I competition, was scheduled to take place from February 14 to 28, 2027. The ICC stated that the removal of hosting rights was a direct consequence of a government-appointed interim body, known as the Transformation Committee, assuming control of Sri Lanka Cricket.
