Sri Lanka name squads for England white-ball tour

Published 3 September 2026

Sri Lanka has announced its squads for an upcoming white-ball tour of England, recalling former captain Dasun Shanaka to the one-day international side and naming uncapped spinner Sachindu Colombage for his maiden international call-up. The tour, which includes three T20 internationals and three ODIs, is scheduled to begin on September 15. Kusal Mendis will captain the team in both formats, with Charith Asalanka serving as vice-captain. Mendis returns to lead the side after missing the recent home Test series against India due to a hamstring injury sustained during the Lanka Premier League. Asalanka was also recalled to the T20I squad after being omitted for the West Indies series, having impressed with 385 runs at a strike rate of 153.38 in the Lanka Premier League. Shanaka, who has played 71 ODIs and captained Sri Lanka in 43 of them, returns to the 50-over squad for the first time since 2024. His inclusion comes after Milan Rathnayake and Pramod Madushan were left out of the ODI squad that defeated the West Indies 1-0 in June. Shanaka also retains his place in the T20I squad. Colombage, a 28-year-old spinner, earns his first international selection in the ODI squad.
