Spider-Man: Brand New Day Becomes Third-Highest-Grossing Film

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the third-highest-grossing film in history, crossing the $2.33 billion mark at the global box office after five consecutive weekends at the top of the charts. The Sony and Marvel Studios blockbuster has now surpassed the worldwide theatrical run of 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water, which finished with approximately $2.32 billion. This milestone places the film, starring Tom Holland, behind only Avatar at roughly $2.92 billion and Avengers: Endgame at around $2.79 billion on the all-time global list. In North America, the film added another $22 million during its fifth weekend, bringing its domestic total to $891 million. It now trails the unadjusted all-time domestic record of $936 million, set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, by just $45 million. Industry observers note the film is within striking distance of that historic benchmark. The movie has been the dominant force in U.S. theaters throughout August, expected to have been the highest-grossing film domestically on every day of the month except August 21, when the Sony release Insidious: Out of the Further opened.
