South OC Cars and Coffee Co-founder Killed in Irvine McLaren Crash

James Wehr, the 27-year-old co-founder of the popular Southern California car gathering South OC Cars and Coffee, was killed in a high-speed crash in Irvine early Sunday morning. A second occupant of the vehicle also died, but their identity has not been publicly released. The Irvine Police Department reported that officers responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Culver Drive and Deerfield Avenue at approximately 12:18 a.m. on September 13, 2026. A preliminary investigation found that a 2019 McLaren had been stopped at a traffic light. When the signal turned green, the car accelerated northbound at a high rate of speed before the driver lost control. The vehicle veered to the right, struck a curb and a tree, split into two pieces, and caught fire. Firefighters with the Orange County Fire Authority extinguished the blaze and discovered two people dead inside the wreckage. The Irvine Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team is examining the circumstances of the crash.
