Sorkin says Strong stayed in character as Zuckerberg on set

Director Aaron Sorkin has revealed that actor Jeremy Strong employed immersive method acting to portray Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in the upcoming film "The Social Reckoning," treating his co-stars as he imagined the tech executive would. Sorkin described Strong's process in a recent interview, stating the actor did not speak in his own voice or walk like himself on set. "I told all the other actors in his scenes, 'Guys, he's not going to be hanging out with you at craft service. He's not going to be yucking it up with you between takes. He's probably not going to speak to you at all. He is going to treat you the way he imagines Mark treats the people around him.' And that's what happened," Sorkin said. The film, which Sorkin wrote and directed, is a follow-up to his 2010 drama "The Social Network." It centers on the 2021 leak of internal Facebook documents by whistleblower Frances Haugen to Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz. The documents revealed research indicating the company knew its platforms could harm users' mental health, particularly among teenagers. Strong's portrayal of Zuckerberg is a central element of the production.
